چکیده

6 The available water in a catchment depends on where and when the water is taken. This raises 7 considerable man-made uncertainty in water availability. Partly due to this uncertainty, catchments are 8 over-allocated almost everywhere. The over-allocation problem could be managed more effectively if 9 catchment managers could match users’ rights to the available water. In this paper, I show how this 10 dilemma can be solved, using the framework of a smart market. A market manager serves as a broker 11 managing a common pool, to buy and sell water. The market manager’s revenue reflects the available 12 water relative to users’ rights. When the market manager is revenue neutral, the catchment may be 13 viewed as perfectly allocated. I suggest ways in which a catchment manager can find this revenue14 neutral allocation, assuming the manager has authority to adjust initial rights. 15

FLOTRAN, a three-dimensional ground water model, with comparisons to analytical solutions and other models

FLOTRAN is a ground water ̄ow and transport model developed in the past few years which takes advantage of recent advances in numerical methodology. FLOTRAN solves the governing equations for ̄ow and contaminant transport using Godunovmixed methods, in which a higher-order Godunov method is used to approximate the advective ̄ux, and a mixed ®nite element method is used for the dispersive transp...

Geoinformatics Support for Information Based Agriculture: a Case Study of Arid Tract of Punjab

Information based agriculture (IBA) includes matching of agronomic practices with soil and water characteristics and their spatial variability for enhancing productivity. An attempt was made to derive agriculture management zones based on soil and water characteristics for sustainable agricultural production in Mansa district (Punjab, India). Based on physiographic analysis and semi detailed so...

Application of InSAR and GIS Techniques to Ground Subsidence Assessment in the Nobi Plain, Central Japan

Spatial variation and temporal changes in ground subsidence over the Nobi Plain, Central Japan, are assessed using GIS techniques and ground level measurements data taken over this area since the 1970s. Notwithstanding the general slowing trend observed in ground subsidence over the plains, we have detected ground rise at some locations, more likely due to the ground expansion because of recove...

Nature of the excited states of the rutile TiO2(110) surface with adsorbed water

We present an ab initio embedded cluster study of the ground and excited states for the rutile (1 1 0) surface with adsorbed water molecule. The calculated adsorption energies and geometries are compared with available experimental data. Upon photoexcitation, an electron–hole pair is created. We found that the electron is localized in the subsurface and thus cannot be directly involved in surfa...

Confidence of Ground Control for Validating Stereo Terrain Reconstruction

This TR discusses aspects of using ground control to validate the computational terrain reconstruction. Image features provided for stereo matching allow to deduce simple confidence measures for reconstructed terrains, and only sufficiently confident terrain points should be validated by the available control data. 1 CITR, Tamaki Campus, University Of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand Con dence o...
